I got this as an email forward and had to share it
Travails of an N.R.I. who returned home to Hyderabad
Na Idhar ke Rahe …
Na Udhar ke Rahe…
Beech adhar atke rahe…
Na Hyderabad ko bhula sake
Na Amreeca ko apna sake
Hyderabadi-Amreecan ban’ke kaam chalate rahe
Na Urdu/hindi ko chod sake
Na Angrezi ko pakad sake
Desi accent mein goron ko confuse karte chale
Na Turkey paka sake
Na gravy bana sake
Murgi ko dam de ke thanksgiving manate chale
Na Christmas tree laga sake
Na bacchon ku samjha sake
Eid par Santa banke tohfe baant-te chale
Na shorts pahen sake
Na shalwar pehen sake
Jeans pe kurti pehen itraate chale
Na Nashte mein donut kha sake
Na poha bhula sake
Pizza par chaat masala chidak kar maza lete rahe
Na US ke milkshake bhula sake
Bas beech adhar jhuk ke kaam chalate rahe….
Na idhar ke rahe…
Na udhar ke
Kambaqt, kahin ke Na rahe
Bas already confused aulaadon ko aur confused banate chale…
Kya hoga hamara!!!!! Khuda bachaye!
Cool one….
ABCD- America Born Confused Desi!
@EktaKhetan Really this is
Being an original Hyderabadi, I really appreciated this, Ritu. Hilarious, yet so true!
@CorinneRodrigues Corinne, you’re from Hyderabad? …. BTW any NRI has similar woes to relate
@RituLalit Yes, moved to Mumbai post-marriage 5 years ago. Yes the woes are the same, just something of the manner of telling them.
Really nice, and the best lines are “Na Khuddi par baith sake……Na Kamod ko bhool sake”.
@AnilSharma :) Yes, many such pithy lines in the poem
wow! Are you a Hyderabadi too? My husband is and I lived in Hyderabad for 7 years. Truly, we first-generation NRI’s are dhobi ka kuttas!! I love the Thanksgiving dilemma…I too still cannot stand the traditional turkey, gravy and mashed potato fare!! But, I must say, I don’t have any problem downing the biryani and mirchi ka salaan’s when I get back!!

Thank you so much for visiting my blog and your kind comments! I am so thrilled that an actual author of two books did!!
@Mom of A and a No I am not Hyderabadi, but am familiar with the problems first gen NRIs face, too many in the immediate family. And awwww, I am a blogger first, being an author came later, but touched by your delight …
