The Bracelet – A Tag

Abhay stood up. He was in a field of grass. Then he heard horses coming. Abhay looked to his right and then to his left, and saw that he was surrounded by horse riders. They stopped just before the dense grass and waited. A man appeared out of nowhere, walked up to him, and held up his hand revealing a bracelet.

What is the secret of the bracelet? Why is everybody after it? And who will get it: the Tantrics or the… Arthrakshaks?

Abhay, an ordinary college-going boy, is thrust into a world of secrets, lies, deceit, and supernatural entities. He finds out that he is an integral part of a war that he must win to save himself and his family from destruction. Will he be able to do it? To find out, read this fascinating novel that you just won’t be able to put down!

This makes me proud :D   Kid#1 aka Ishaan Lalit is now a published author.  His YA book is coming out by the end of the month.  I request all you guys to help me publicize it, please.  Do attempt this tag and tag five of your blogger friends to copy+paste the cover and the back blurb (in bold and italics) and also do the tag.

Three 55ers, A tag

Editor’s note: this tag is doing the rounds on Facebook.  I prefer to respond on my blog.  People, feel free to take up the tag

THE ESCAPE

He loved her madly, she reminded him of a hummingbird, small, full of life. He was scared she would fly away. He tried to clip her wings, with frowns, by imposing boundaries. Every unkind word, every restraint cut into her soul. One day she broke free, they called it suicide, but he knew the truth.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………

MOM’S GIFT

He unpacked the parcel.

“What did your mother send you?” she asked

“A pullover” he said, unfolding it and shaking out the tissue

“It’s so huge” she laughed

He just smiled quietly.  After she left he wore it and snuggled by the heater blissfully, reliving the childhood feeling of being cuddled in his mother’s lap.

…………………………………………………………………………………

A VAMPIRIC LOVE AFFAIR

“I wish we’d met earlier, I was gorgeous then” she complained, her soft lips pouting

“I’m glad we did not, your beauty could kill me” he said, drawing her into his arms.

“How much do you love me?”

“I’d die for you” he said smitten.

Her fangs dug into his throat … and he did.

Monika’s book tag

Ummm I think every one has done the tag – but if you haven’t, you’re tagged

Gender Stereotypes : IHM’s tag

IHM comes out with the most interesting tags.  Here is what she says on her blog

Have you ever wanted something that is considered ‘manly’ ? Like a basketball, a cell phone, a dog, a camera or a new laptop? A new car or motor bike? Ever wanted to be a pilot? A doctor or not a nurse? And the manliest want of them all – The remote! ;)

As a kid did you enjoy playing with a bat and a ball?

There was a time when books were considered ‘manly’, women authors had to pretend to be men – would you say books are still rather manly – women should want to embroider and crochet?

She has a similar question for men.  Hop across and read the blogpost.

I must admit that I am guilty of doing a lot more than this, so it follows that I have more XY than XX chromosomes I guess.  So here are my politically incorrect choices that I revel in

1. I love motorcycles.  There was a time when I owned one, and used to service it myself.

2. I can change a flat tyre by myself.  Blame my Dad for it.  He felt that a person who wants to drive should know how to change a flat tyre and taught me how to do it.

3. I change fused bulbs myself at home, I am aware that people feel its a man’s job, but dont agree with that thinking.

4. I can fly kites, play gilli danda and am a marbles champ (at least I was once upon a time ;) heh!)

5. X rated jokes amuse me, they dont shock me at all.  I guess I am besharm that way.

6. I dont wear make up unless I have to.

7. I love technology … cellphones, gizmos, even those sensor lights fascinate me.

8. I love dogs, they are the best of God’s creatures

9. I dont wear jewellery unless I have to

10. Women’s magazines bore me, they have too many skinny models and too much jewellery and make up.  Plus they are so marriage centric.

Now I have to tag people

The Bald Guy’s Tag

The bald guy tagged me, it was fortunate, because I was thinking about what to write. Yep, there are days when “feed the blog” comes not with a {!} but a {????}

I’m supposed to answer these questions, then make up my own ten questions for you and pass on the tag

1. What one material thing are you hoping/ scoping to inherit?

Ans: A nice cottage in the hills! Someone write that into their will please!

2. You’re driving. It’s great weather. Attractive member of opposite sex in expensive car looks at you and half-smiles. You’re in a relationship. Do you return the look and half-smile back?

Ans: Of course! Dudes what’s a relationship got to fear from a smile? Besides, one never knows eh?

3. Can’t smell or can’t taste? For six months, and if you had to chose, would you rather lose your sense of smell or not be able to taste anything?

Ans: I need my sense of smell. Its really important to me. Taste can wait. Maybe if I lose my sense of taste, I’d also lose a bunch of weight.

4. Pick a situation

a. You’re 42. Would you rather go without sex for three years and win a lottery after that, enabling you to never have to work again? Or
b. Get twice the lottery money now (at 42) but have your partner sleep with your boss?

Ans: Of course the first choice. At 42, I rather take the lottery and retire. The sex can wait.

5. What’s a quicker turn off, bad pronunciation or maroon lipstick?

Ans: Bad pronunciation!

6. Would you rather your kid turn out to be a nymphomaniac or gay?(For my amusement, please answer in the format: I would rather my kid be —)

Ans: I’ll go with Ramit here, I would rather my kid be what he/she wants to be and is comfortable with. God give me forbearance and the will power to not butt in if such a thing happens.

7. For which one thing have you not forgiven your mother?

Ans: One thing? There is a chapter, a book and entire season worth of a list. Sigh! Closure is not that easy to achieve!

8. Would you rather go bald or lose your front tooth?

Ans: Front tooth is replaceable – so front tooth it is.

9. Your sibling is sleeping with your married close friend. Who do you go to first, sibling or married close friend?

Ans: They’re old enough to know what they are doing. Why should I borrow trouble by butting in?

10. When was the last time you cried that wasn’t while watching a movie?

Ans: I cry easily. Even Sita Haran and Ram-Bharat Milaap can make me teary-eyed! Pretty sure it happened within this week …

Okay, DONE!! Am at office so am doing a cop-out. Wont change the questions ….. just forwarding the tag to people, hoping they change the questions.

I tag:

Hey Ramit! Your tag is done

The cherry award and the twisted one!

If Life is a Bowl of Cherries -
What Am I Doing in the Pits?

Erma Bombeck said that and she is darn right as far as I am concerned. I never knew of this author until a few readers of my blog pointed out that I have a similar sense of humor. I dunno. Mebbe we went through the same shit …I certainly found a kindred soul in her work, that is for sure!

Consider this one :-

I read one psychologist’s theory that said, “Never strike a child in anger.” When could I strike him? When he is kissing me on my birthday? When he is recuperating from measles? Do I slap the Bible out of his hand on Sunday

The lady makes sense!

Now back to the award

Rules
1. Thank the person that gave this to you
2. Copy the award and put it on your blog.
3. List 3 things you love about yourself
4. Post a picture you love (e.g a person you adore etc.)
5. Tag 5 people you wish to pass this award on to

Thanks a lot Ramit! And yes bald guys are sexy, they are housetrained and do not shed! So I love you muah!

Things I love about myself …..

1. I am totally content with myself – dont need any one else to keep me entertained

2. I am 50 which means I can happily get out of doing anything I dont want to – by blaming it on my aged brain cells ( I forgot ) or my aging bones (yaar budhi hoon main, nahin kar paati)

3. I love my own cooking

Chota parivaar, sukhi parivaar

People I tag

1. Monika
2. Tikuli
3. Reema
4. Pixie
5. Addy

THE SECOND AWARD, MY VERY FAVORITE

Given by IHM for marching to my own drummer and doing my own thing and seeing what I chose to see and not stuff right in front of my nose … or as in this case – my laptop monitor.

IHM wanted us to guess what she saw on a tree that made her laugh and posted the photo. Dammit, I am old and my eyesight is weak and failing

Theatrical sigh and dramatically staggering footsteps ~~~~

Ab mujhey nahin dikha na – so I guessed.

Psst! Even offered to bribe her

So she gave me this award as a consolation prize!

Now I can ring up M Night Shyamalan and whisper eerily ” I see dead people just what I want to see, even if it ain’t there”

I think I have a promising career ahead of me

Buy one and get one free

Roop tagged me some time back and gave me a bribe/award to sweeten the deal. Now I am a sucker for scratch cards and buy one – get one free deals, so I have taken her tag – it came with the honest blogger award, and kya kahen, I am easy to please …..

I am supposed to tell the blogosphere 10 things about myself. Considering that I have told the blogosphere a lot about myself … this is a challenge. Aisa kya hai that I can write that folks dont know about me????

1. Merey Colgate mein namak nahin hai. Seriously dudes, that ad sucks! Imagine waking up in the morning and stretching out, walking in for the brush and bladder routine to have someone burst into your bathroom with the question “Kya aapkey Colgate mein namak hai!” I would require serious therapy and the person bursting in would require first aid (would attack out of sheer panic)! S e r i o u s l y!!!!

2. My mental image of myself is the shy, bookish, retiring types. My sons and daughter in law think I need a reality check …. sigh!

3. Was a model for a very short time in my life. Those were the days when I was slim (sigh!) and young (deeper sigh!!!) and looked really pretty. Oh, and the money I earned seriously belonged to me and not to the EMIs, kids and other sundry expenses (Deepest deepest sigh!!).

4. I am animal friendly … but dont know why. Dogs, cats and other sundry members of the animal kingdom latch on to me, and I dont understand why. It freaks me out! May be because I like to cook and all kinds of food smells linger on me??? Wonder ……

5. I own cars but dont have a clue what happens under the bonnet. But if there is a malfunction, I get out, pop the bonnet open and look at the wierd stuff there very intelligently. I even touch the wires and pipes as though I know what is what! Thankfully some macho do-gooder comes and says “Maydamji, maddad chahiye?” and rescues me from my act.

6. I need to get up in the night … actually sleep barely 3 hours at a stretch. Then I get up and go out to check if I am still in this planet. Once as a little girl, I walked out, left the door open and slept in the grass outside (We were in Shillong then) and froze. Anti-children-doing-such-things-padlocks were installed by the parents. Now I go up to the roof and check if the world is still around me. The dogs accompany me. Can imagine them thinking “Dog Alert! Woof batty woman on the prowl, Woof!! we need to guard her!”

7. The only living soul who understands me is our water turtle Annubis, but he is only three days old so it does not count.

8. Give me a good book and I forget to eat, sleep, breathe until it is over. Cant leave a book half finished and go to sleep.

9. I am teaching myself how to make nachos from scratch …. and am proud of the good results I have had.

10. As a kid, I would bring home strays ..kittens, birds etc. I once brought home an orange cat …. only it was a lion cub! My parents forced me to give it away to the zoo. Sigh!

Am surprised that I actually wrote 10 things about me that you did not know. Am surprised that you actually read them :D

Feel free to take the tag up if so inclined. In my experience they are good stuff to take on when inspiration is low

8 blogging buddies I want to tag

You – yes you who are reading this! Consider yourself tagged!

My favorite movie lines – They’re called boobs Ed

This is a tag forwarded to me by Shilpadesh and I am going to have fun with it

On your blog, provide a link to the Great Bong’s page, May I Hebb Your Attention Pliss. Embedding the above picture in your blog would be nice but not needed.

The May I Hebb Your Attention Pliss contest

2. Then write down your top 10 Hindi movie lines or top 10 English movie lines (You can do both if you want. Only one set is required for the contest). If you cannot think of top 10, make it top 5. Cannot think of even 5? Make it top 3. No problem. Only restriction: no two lines from same movie. This done to make it fair for other movies so that they dont get swamped by Gunda or Loha or Sholay.

3. Tag five friends to do the same.

4. Come over to the comment-space of this post and post your blog’s link so I can go and read it.

Remember: Before starting the tag, paste points 1 and 4 on your blog so that the rules are available to anyone who wishes to pick the tag up from your blog.
